Swimming Gala 2018

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A school seems incomplete without sports events, and sports events not only consists of track but swimming too. As the saying ‘A sound mind in a sound body’ goes, the health of the body is an essential factor for success in life. Thus, sports serves as an essential purpose in life because it ensures good health and physique. It is important for students to not only be smart academically but to also be fit physically.

This year, Sri Utama’s swimming gala was held on the 9th of May in school.  On this fine day, kindergarten, primary and secondary students gathered together to attend the swimming gala. Some came to participate and others came to support and cheer for their fellow peers. As the participants got ready, prefects assist the parents to get settled in their seats while teachers prepared to start the event.

At 8am, the Annual Swimming Gala 2018 started with a remarkable speech by the Vice Principal, Ms Komal Khorana followed by cutting of balloons by the Chairman of Sri Utama, En Hassan Mohamed Ali. The event commenced with Primary and Secondary School freestyle races. Participants showed their competitive spirits, eager to win a medal for their race. The event was then followed by kindergarten pool activities and prize giving ceremony for the winners of the freestyle races.  Following this were the breaststroke events and relay matches for both primary and secondary participants. In these events, students get to develop teamwork skills together with their teammates to strive for their best.

Towards the end of the Annual Swimming Gala, water games were held for Primary and Secondary students. In these games, participants are divided into different teams by teachers. This year, Primary school participants were given a Water Bottle game. Three minutes were given for each group member to enter the water and pick the nearest water bottle filled with water and return to let the next member enter. With cheers and support from both parents and students, three teams successfully managed to get their respective medals. Secondary students were also divided into teams and given a Marble Challenge with the same rules. The team with the most marbles at the end of 3 minutes were crowned the winner. The last event for this day was the Water Polo match among the Secondary school boys.
